6 Music Festival line-up: Suede headline in Bristol
By Beth Ryan
Suede, Foals, Poliça and folk singer Laura Marling are among the artists performing at this year's BBC Radio 6 Music festival. They will join Primal Scream, local vocalist and producer Tricky presents Skilled Mechanics, and Bristol-based rock band Blue Aeroplanes, who were some of the names revealed in December when Bristol was unveiled as this year's location.
The festival, which will take place from Friday 12 to Sunday 14 February, is now in its third year. Elbow were a highlight of last year's festival, which was held in Tyneside, while Franz Ferdinand, Bombay Bicycle Club and Kelis performed at 2014's Manchester event.
Marling's success has been steadily growing since she won the Brit Award for Best Female Solo Artist in 2011 – the same award she's nominated for this year following the release of her fifth album Short Movie in 2015. Foals' performance on the 14th will interrupt their debut arena tour, and Suede will release their seventh album Night Thoughts on January 22. American alternative rock group Poliça will release new album United Crushers in March.
Other artists on the line-up include Savages, Roisin Murphy, Ezra Furman, Kurt Vile, Julia Holter, Daughter, Buzzcocks, Everything Everything and Guy Garvey. There are more than 50 acts altogether, delivering music, spoken word and comedy at venues across the city – such as Motion, Colston Hall and O2 Academy Bristol.
Bob Shennan, Controller of BBC Radio 6 Music, said: “This year’s 6 Music Festival in Bristol will bring a feast of entertainment to a city that has a musical story to tell. The Festival will bring together a rich combination of some of the UK’s burgeoning talent including Blossoms and Rozi Plain coupled with 6 Music favourites such Underworld and Laura Marling, fully reflecting 6 Music’s exciting and diverse output.”
Tickets for the festival start at £35 a day, and will be available on the BBC website. BBC Radio 6 Music will be broadcasting from the festival across the weekend, with many performances being aired live.
