Ok, it's my least favorite of their releases (unless you count disc 2 of Sci-Fi Lullabies). Brett's voice is sort of strained (in a painful way), and they buried two of the best songs as "hidden" or "bonus" tracks. Positivity isn't the terrible song that people make it out to be, but it's not the best opening cut. Lonely Girls is pure cheese (why the strings???), the backing vocals on Street Life are ridiculous, and Beautiful Loser sounds like a song that the Tears would later do much better.

So why this thread?...well, I never said I didn't love it. At the risk of sounding even more like a hack journalist...its imperfections make it beautiful.

Why is this the Suede album that everyone's supposed to hate? It's wonderful.

I like lots of ANM - always have even though I hardly ever listen to it - I like Astrogirl, Obsessions, Lonely Girls, LIT, YBTM especially... and yeah Positivity isn't a bad song either...

and there are some good b-sides too

anm is not so bad - it is just not drug snorting, dirty fucking, sky line swine, nuclear sky, dragon chasing enough for some people which is fair enough - but a positive, happy record does not have to be bad....!!!!

Gotta admit, I was a latecomer to ANM. Pretty shameful considering I've been a fan since the mid '90s. I didn't even notice when it came out, no one I knew bought it, and I saw the limited edition version in shops as late as 2007. By the time I got round to checking it out, I was pleasantly surprised. Took me a few listens to appreciate some tracks, but yeah, there's some gems on this album. I think the production largely suits the uplifting and sometimes simple nature of the music, and I love a select few. I imagine some of ANM and the b-sides will grow on me largely in time.

And who would've thought, the night they played the album many didn't care about at the ICA would be the same night they decided to treat the audience to a rare dusting off of Stay Together!

Stop mentioning the fucking ICA show!!!! Kills me that I was in London that weekend but couldn't get the tickets - especially as they played ST!!!!!!
