I know an american guy who is absolutely besotted with them and thinks they're wonderful and he can't understand why I have no interest in them whatsoever!!!! He was quite shocked when I told him I couldn't be arsed to go and stand around in the crowd when the queen visited my town a couple of years ago or Prince Charles last year... I don't disrespect them but similarly I don't think they're great either - and to be honest I can understand those who actively despise them for the fact they are famous, rich and successful based on heritage rather than anything else... But I guess they are good for tourism so we can't grumble too much - but people who don't live here are also shocked when they find out that effectively the queen has no real power in a day to day manner at all - yes she opens parliament, yes she has regualr meetings with the PM and also has to accept both the resignation of a PM and the swearing in of an incumbant - but the government makes and passes laws (alongside the house of lords) and even the queen's birthday and new years honours list is created by the government and passed on!!! Even the queen's speech at the opening of parliament is written by the government detailing what the government will do and all she has to do is read it out!!!...

because they haven't got one!

I didn't read the OP, but I hate the royal family...

even the french still have one after all the fuss back in the past
