You know i'm not the biggest of Blur fans but I guess some of you will be interested...

from bbc:

Blur have gone back into the studio to record their first new material as a four-piece for eight years.

A new track will be released on a UK-only seven-inch vinyl single for Record Store Day on 17 April, and will be limited to 1,000 copies.

Record Store Day is intended to support independent record shops and the single will only be available from participating outlets.

Damon Albarn said such stores were "an important part of our musical culture".

"Music is a simple way for Blur to show our support and I hope people like it," he said.

A very misguided move if you ask me. The 7 inches will get snapped up by scalpers who'll flog em on ebay at inflated prices. The record stores don't profit from this as they'll only be able to sell them for a few quid and the fans who want them will have to pay through the nose.

If bands are gonna do something like this they should just use existing material presented in a new way or make sure it's available to download as well.

See what your saying Gareth - but the thing about downloads - I guess if this is meant to be about supporting traditional independent records shops then the last thing they would want for 'record store day' or whatever it's called would be to make it available as a download!! - of course it's all about downloads now but personally I like to have a 'hard copy' on cd too - never too keen on vinyl copies anymore - need a proper record player for that!!

Yeah it's certain ebayers will profit as you say - but proper fans should get their chance to get in quick and snap them up too!!!

But as people have said before - it always seems to be those looking to profit who manage to get in first - exactly the same as with concert tix!!! fucking annoying!!! :x :x

Not 100% sure I'll be able to get a copy myself but if I do I could always pick you up a copy and post it to you if you really want one?

Just to let you know I did try and get a copy of the single but no chance! I phoned my local store in Billericay the day before and they said they'd only been given 1 copy and my best bet was to try Rough Trade Records in Brick Lane. Got there for just before 9 but people had been queing up since 5am!!

Heard the record on the radio it's brilliant so am double gutted :(
