Yeah Mark I agree with respect to the weird vocals on Asphalt World. At the end, it seems that incorporating these weird beautiful versions would have been The Turn of the Screw for an already very oscure album

Am I invited to that suedey weekend? :)

F***ing hell, the vocals of the Asphalt World seem like an XIX century's psicophony of an orgasm... so scary and beautiful, why didnt they leave them like this?

While listening to those non-edited and demo versions, it's easier to understand the difficulties in the band in 1994. It sounds like they had to choose between becoming Suede Floyd or Poppy Suede.

It's great to hear Bernard's glam psychedelics, but they make Suede a totally different band. Uptil now, to me Suede mark I was a true rock band, Bernard wanted to make them a prog-soul-rock band. I'm not sure it would have been as interesting to me. And it also shows that Suede mark II is a completely different band, being Coming Up their debut.

Ah, all so confusing, but truely fascinating.

They were definitely trying to push it and get bigger and bigger and bigger and well, how big can you make something sound????.... ambition that got labelled by some as 'overblown', even in its edited form... hmmm... who knows, all I know is that I got into Suede because of 'Trash' and 'Coming Up' so maybe if 'Suede mk II' had not come along I might never have got into the band - who knows???... Although I guess with a lot of bands, you don't necessarily always get into bands first time round...
