Pointless star and best-selling author Richard Osman has the career many can only dream of – but he isn’t the family’s only high-profile sibling.
In fact, showbiz runs in the family, with Richard Osman’s brother being a founding member of one of the biggest Britpop bands in history.
Who is Richard Osman’s brother and what’s the name of his band?
Here’s what you need to know…
Who is Richard Osman’s brother, Mat Osman?
Mathew David Osman – known as Mat – is an English musician, best known as the bassist in the rock band Suede.
Mat, 53, is three years older than his TV personality brother, Richard.
As well as being one of the founding members of Suede, Mat Osman has provided music for television programmes including 8 Out of 10 Cats.

Much like little brother Richard, whose debut novel, The Thursday Murder Club, became a Sunday Times Number One bestseller in September 2020, Mat Osman has also found success in writing.
His debut novel, The Ruins, was released in February 2020 and he has had his writing published in British magazines and newspapers including The Guardian, The Independent and The Observer.
Who are Suede?
Osman’s biggest success has been with the band Suede.
Formed in 1989, the band has had many line-up changes but Osman and singer Brett Anderson are the remaining original members.
Their debut album, Suede, went to the top of the UK Albums Chart, becoming the fastest-selling debut album in almost ten years. It also won the prestigious Mercury Music Prize.
By 1994, Suede would become one of the ‘Britpop big four’, along with Oasis, Blur and Pulp.
Suede found critical and commercial success with follow-up albums including Coming Up (1996), Head Music (1999) and A New Morning (2002).
After disbanding in 2003, the band officially reunited in 2010 and by 2018, their eighth studio album, The Blue Hour, became the band’s first top five record since 1999.
