lol - I only heard about the new songs today - too soon to judge them other than they sound quite spikey - lyrics sound a bit repetitive and basic at times but it seems works in progress having seen Brett reading from lyrics sheets... Be interesting to see how things further develop...

we may not? do you mean we may not hear them???... you need to be more expansive dear :P

anyway back on topic - the thing is, really, if they DON'T now release an album all that will tell the world is "we're Suede, we used to be great (EVEN with anm!) but now we can't even write a decent album we feel is worth releasing anymore"... If they go to the trouble of writing and recording new songs, road testing them publicly, and keep saying in interviews they will be looking at possibly realising a new album if it's good enough - to then decide NOT to - well, then Suede will be dead, finsihed - because it will be a public admittance that we're actually not very good anymore and we can't come up with new material of the standard we used to . Now THAT would be a FAR more tragic end for Suede than ANM - which was a good if flawed album... Really they HAVE to come up with a new album now or it will just be 5 guys telling the world that they can't do it anymore and they're scared of ruining their legacy...

I get the point in not making promises, in not committing to anything - it all makes sense - all i'm saying is, in the worst case scenario, having gone this far, to then pull out of realising a new album, I think could possibly be more damaging to their reputation... It would fuel the hater 'fans' who criticise the later material and say they have lost it...

Let's get this in perspective shall we? coming up, head music, and a new morning combined are a trio of great albums - do we forget that melody maker named head music their album of the year for 1999? or that despite the critiscism on initial release a new morning got 7/10 from nme and 3/5 from Q magazine??? so their current legacy isn't quite the later disaster some like to portray. The song that supposedly ruined their career, 'Positivity', still sounds as fresh, jingly-jangly, and uplifting as it ever did...

But then I guess if they DO fail to release anything new people will still remember how great they are - I guess I just want and hope for a great new suede album - we ALL do... The fact they are taking their time is important... I'd wait as long as it takes to come up with a great new album - 'Black Rainbows' was a brilliant solo effort - widely critically acclaimed... Brett still has the fire, passion and most importantly tunes in his belly!!! :D 8)
