Are you like me, avoiding malls, hipster cafes, and other places where they insist on pumping top 40 shite over the loudspeakers?

Another Christmas hater? I think we were meant to be friends. :D

(The malls here have apparently been decorated for a month now. I know the street lamps already have festive wreaths. No fun.)

I don't count "Fairytale of New York" as a Christmas song, since it's more about the end of a relationship and the denial of the American dream than it is about sharing presents and decorating the tree and all that bollocks.

And, ok, I love A Fine Frenzy's "Oh Blue Christmas" EP...but that's because anything AFF does is good. If Suede wasn't such an awful covers band (an opinion perhaps unfairly based solely on "Shipbuilding"), I'd say they could do a decent Xmas release.

Well I am afraid Fairytale Of New York is ALL ABOUT CHRISTMAS!!! how can lines like "it was christmas eve babe" and "so happy christmas - i love u baby" and "the bells were ringing out for christmas day" make it anything other than a christmas song lol???!!! stupido!!! hahaha!!! christmas songs don't have to be about presents and decorations - christmas as anyone knows is about spending time with all ur family and loved ones and thinking about others - when so often we are all too busy with our lives and doing our own things!!! whether it is about the termination of a relationship or whatever - it is STILL a christmas song - released at christmas, on christmas tv at the time for promotion, on christmas albums!!! It's even been voted the best christmas song of all time!!! Just because it is a christmas song doesn't have to make that a bad thing!!! best line - "happy christmas your arse, I pray god it's our last!"!!!

And don't use words like bollocks when most americans don't even understand what that means lol - I remember it was sooooooo funny when a brit DJ rang up the lost and found and spoke to police at Miami airport asking if they could try and find his bollocks for him hahahhaa!!! they were like - "what are bollocks?" the dj said "oh i'll try and explain - it's like a couple of balls, they are kept inside a bag - please try and find it because i really need them"!!!! hahahaha!!!

So is Dylan's "She Belongs To Me" a Christmas song?

"For Halloween get her a trumpet, and for Christmas, buy her a drum."

:P

I guess my point is that most "Christmas songs" are solely about the holiday and the pomp associated with it; "Fairytale Of New York" actually goes beyond mere sentimentality and empty imagery to talk about something meaningful and real that can be listened to at any time of the year, with or without snow on the ground and garlands around every lamppost in sight.

"And don't use words like bollocks when most americans don't even understand what that means lol "

Haha, I'm actually writing a term paper about the Sex Pistols for one of my classes, and I'm debating whether to include the "bollocks" controversy in the whole shebang!

I use terms like "stop talking out of your arse" and "oh shite" and no one around me knows what I'm on about...methinks I need to listen to a wee bit less British music.
