"Indie" is pretty much any band on the Garden State soundtrack (exception: Simon & Garfunkel). Pop is S/A/W. You can make a case for Suede not being rock, but I say Oasis (at least on their first album and singles/B-sides) were a pure rock band. Ditto with the Pistols (punk is really a subdivision of rock, not a separate category...)

There was a time in my life when I thought I might like the Small Faces (I'd already written off the Faces for good). That was also a time in my life when I couldn't name a single post-1977 band.

That was not the happiest time of my life.

 :o You bitch!!! :P :x  I feel quite sorry for Andrew he has to put up with being young in an era of shit music!!! It was so cool growing up through the 'britpop' phase - like the return of the 60's  Same as your schoolkids sun, probably all rotting their brains with the latest n'dubz or lady gaga shit and believing that it's cutting-edge music!!! :( No wonder you have such a hard time teaching them when their brains have died thanks to the audio abominations in their eardrums 24/7!!!! :) My boyfriend has a very edgy, alternative taste in music for someone so young...! :D

Not hard enough???? Do you actually own "Definitely Maybe"???

I was replying to your question, but it got so long that I figured I wouldn't clog up this thread with it...I started a new one, so it's hopefully not just me going on some long self-indulgent post about what makes/made me happy. :D

Definitely maybe is a good pop album but supersonic??? live forever??? you think they're rock songs??? even rock n roll star isn't all that rock n roll - a great upbeat pop/rock song but nothing more - the most rock n roll song is of course a complete t.rex rip off (cigarettes & alcohol if u didn't know what i was referring to!) so you can't even give them that!!!

Yeah i'm 31 - look pretty good for my age don't I ??? anyway I thought that u always fail???!!! :P

How dare you compare Britpop to the 60's??? Britpop at its worst still destroyed most of the 60's shite!

I never listened to contemporary radio, I don't watch TV, etc., so the fact that I grew up with Britney and Christina never bugged me. Plus, even if I had grown up in the 1990's, it would have been all Nirvana and Pearl Jam and Alanis...ugh!!!

How young is your b/f, mark? What's his taste like? Is he a Suedehead?

I guess if you limit "rock" being directly blues-influenced, no, they're not rock...and in that case, I hate everything "rock" with the exception of Chuck Berry!!! :P

And yeah, I know that they ripped off T Rex...but everyone rips people off. That doesn't discredit them.

You're a good looking guy. Don't take that the wrong way. :D

There's no success like failure; and failure's no success at all.*

*Given that you probably have no idea what I'm on about, it's a lyric from a Bob Dylan song.

He's 18 and he's not in the country at this stage lol - but he hopes to be in the future - yeah, yeah i know that sounds weird but there u go!!! and he's not a massive suede fan but he has listened to them a bit since he met me - in fact he likes many bands and things and current alt music i've never even heard of!!!! But his VERY favourite is Bjork... He's pretty big on The Smiths too but well he likes many and various obscure artists...!!! He's also an amazing fashion designer/artist - well he drew an amazing portrait of me simply from my facebook pics - took him 4 hours and well looks incredible to me - I was blown away that someone would think of doing that for me - was a complete surprise that he did it!!! :D

I wasn't discrediting oasis because they ripped off t.rex - i was just saying that even the most 'rock' song on the album isn't really one of their own lol - so they ain't strictly a rock band but we could go round in circles with that for hours!!!

Oh and thanx for saying i'm good looking lol!!! Don't worry I won't take it the wrong way, i'm sure you're not 'turning' but you HAVE been flirting with me a lot recently!!! Well what i'd call flirting anyway!!! :P

And when I was comparing 'britpop' to the 60's scene I was talking about the whole vibe of things not just the music - the whole scene felt like something massive was going on - and what with euro 96 football competition being held in england and the huge success that was - and the whole country having football fever particularly and coming together that summer it just felt special - like a movement... There was a big movement not just of music in the 60's - the fashion the whole feeling that was around - as I said it felt like something major was going on in the country and that it was something very universal - something we were all sharing in and feeling privelged to be part of!!! It was a scene similar to the 60's because everyone seemed to be following it and into it and it was all the media could talk about for a while... and of course there was some pretty good music along the way too - as with the 60's - but whatever u think about the 60's for music u can not deny that really it was the last time pre britpop there felt like there was this massive universal scene everyone was digging - with punk or glam or late 80's/early 90's dance scenes they were still very much outsider marginalised scenes that were infiltrating the mainstream but not universally taking over... britpop like the 60's scene as a whole completely dominated society in general for a number of years....

18? If I knew a gay equivalent of "cougar," I'd start referring to you that way. :D

You should post that picture he drew.

I'll further complicate our relationship by admitting that the only Bjork I like are the singles from Debut (plus "Crying"). What's your take on her?

If what I do with you is "flirting," I flirt with everyone I meet! Maybe that's why girls don't like me...they think I'm loose, bisexual, and indiscriminate!

Of course, I wasn't of age or in the right place for the 60's or Britpop, so I'll have to take your word for the social aspects...but again, even I had been around then, I'd probably have been immune/oblivious to it all and just focused on the music. I'd like to say that I have some noble reasons for being that way, but I just can't get interested in image or mass hypnosis or any of that.

BTW, nice new sig. :D
